2008 BMW Round
Ireland 2nd Toughest in Races History
With three gales during the 2008 BMW Round Ireland Yacht Race this
years proved to be one of the toughest on man
and racings machine. Only in 1990, when 26 out of the 61 entrants
(43% of the fleet) were forced to retire primarily due to boat or
rig damage, did the attrition rate exceed this years figures of 16
retirements from a fleet of 46 (35%).
Matt Davis and P. Saranov ("Russiansail"
member) and the crew were the winners in IRC 0 class.
Congratulations! |

The first Russian tv-channel completely devoted to
the water space - became the information sponsor of "Russian sail".
On January, 1, 2008 the new Russian tv-channel - "Ocean-TV" - has started.
It's the first tv-project completely devoted to World ocean, to a history
of mutual relations of the person and the water elements, to the development
of water space .
It is the courageous and unique concept for the Russian tv-market of
cognitive TV.
In Russia the interest to a water theme promptly grows: the country is
surrounded with three oceans and twelve seas, and general length of the
rivers - is the biggest in the world.
One of the tasks of a tv-channel - to promote development of interest of
the tv-viewer to knowledge, to open ocean for each spectator.

The
problem with spinnaker
in 4-th race of the America's Cup 32 has
deprived a yacht glorified ocean-racer

" Emirates Team New
Zealand ", opportunities to fix success of the first races, and as a result
- a general victory.

Sanderson, the 2006 ISAF World Sailor of the Year, was announced recently as
Team Director for the British challenger TEAMORIGIN which was launched
earlier this year by Sir Keith Mills, the British businessman who ran
London’s victorious bid to host the 2012 Olympics.

Speaking in an interview with www.volvooceanrace.org in Valencia recently,
Sanderson said: “It’s very exciting to be involved with a project of this
magnitude. There are over 70 Brits involved in the current 32nd America’s
Cup and with Britain being the strongest nation in the Olympic Games,
there’s no shortage of talent available for a British campaign. I also
expect there will a few familiar faces from the last Volvo race involved.
“What I’m really looking forward is to get back into the sort of close team
environment we enjoyed with ABN AMRO. If we can replicate that and expand it
to the size of a Cup team then hopefully we can have some success.”
